CHRP

Upon graduation, you have the option of pursuing the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation. This designation is an acknowledgement from the industry that you have a minimum standard of knowledge and experience in the HR field. By attaining this designation, one is part of the Human Resources Professional Association and dedicates themselves to the professional development that is associated with having a CHRP.
To obtain the CHRP designation, one needs to:
- Complete the courses required
- Finish your degree as per post-secondary institution’s requirements
- Become a part of the HRPA
- Write and pass the National Knowledge Examination (NKE)
- Work in an HR-related job for 3 years
At the Ted Rogers School of Management, here are the courses required for the CHRP designation:
Year 1
MHR 523 – Human Resources Management OR HTH 503 Human Resources Administration
ACC 100/110 – Introductory Financial Accounting/ Financial Accounting (choose one)
ACC 406/416 – Introductory Management Accounting/ Management Accounting (choose one)
Year 2
MHR 405 – Organizational Behavior and Interpersonal Skills OR HTH 601 Organizational Behavior
MHR 522 – Industrial Relations
Year 3 and 4
MHR 623 – Recruitment and Selection
MHR 711 – Occupational Health and Safety OR OHS 718 Systems Management I
MHR 733 – Training and Development
MHR 749 – Compensation Management
MHR 849 – Human Resources Planning
Important:
CHRP applicants must obtain a grade of no less than 65% (C) in these nine courses, and must maintain a cumulative grade point average of no less than 70% (B-). Average grades for ACC 100 and ACC 406 must be 65% (C). For subject areas where applicants received lower than the grade requirement, applicants may consider taking a challenge exam, exams offered in May and November, where, upon successful completion, applicants will be awarded a credit for the subject area.
